Verbatim Voices

Pricing

The price comes from the length of your document, and you see it before you agree to anything. Nothing is charged until you press the button.

Launch pricing
  • $0.16 per 1,000 characters of text that will be read aloud.
  • $10 minimum per document.
  • The price is always shown before you agree. Nothing is charged without your agreement.

During the field test, invited testers are not charged. Payments are not open yet.

How the price is worked out

  1. You upload a PDF or text file. We read it and count the spoken characters: the letters, numbers and punctuation that will actually be read aloud. Page headers, footers and page numbers that repeat on every page are skipped, so they are not counted.
  2. The price follows that count. Price = spoken characters ÷ 1,000 × $0.16, and never less than $10.
  3. You see the length and the price first. The page shows the number of pages, about how long the recording will be, the spoken-character count and the price.
  4. You choose. You can stay on that page and read it over. If you agree, you press Make the recording. If you do not, close the page. Nothing is made and nothing is charged. A file you never confirm is deleted automatically within 24 hours.

Worked examples

These are computed from the launch rate. Price is by characters, not pages. A typical transcript page is roughly 1,200 to 1,600 characters, so the page counts below are only estimates.

Launch pricing examples: $0.16 per 1,000 characters, $10 minimum.
Spoken charactersRough pages (estimate)Rate mathYou pay
10,000about 6 to 810 × $0.16 = $1.60, below the minimum$10.00
40,000about 25 to 3340 × $0.16 = $6.40, below the minimum$10.00
100,000about 63 to 83100 × $0.16 = $16.00$16.00
300,000about 188 to 250300 × $0.16 = $48.00$48.00

The minimum stops applying at 62,500 characters, where the rate comes to exactly $10.

Why a minimum?

Every recording has fixed costs no matter how short it is, including payment processing and the checking steps we run on each job. A $10 minimum keeps small jobs from costing us more than they bring in.

Think of planning any job: whether it's big or small, you still have to scope it, set it up, do the work and deliver it, and those steps take about the same effort either way. A recording is the same: we check your file, price it, make the recording and deliver it with a private link, whatever its length.

What is included in the price

  • The recording, with a different voice for each speaker.
  • Your private listen page, where you can click a line or a word to jump to that moment.
  • A Download MP3 button. The file is saved under your uploaded file's name.
  • The ready email with your private link.
  • Delete now, or automatic deletion 48 hours after the recording is ready.

Voices are made with Amazon Polly. If other voice engines are offered later, their price will be shown to you the same way, before you agree.

Coming later

These are planned and not available yet: plans with included characters, prepaid credit packs, and add-ons (highlighted video, SRT/VTT captions, an accuracy report, and a full download package). We will show their prices before you agree to them. If prices change, we will treat existing customers fairly. We are not promising specific terms yet.

Straight answers about money

  • Is the cost shown first? Yes. Always, before you agree.
  • Can I back out? Yes, at the quote screen. Closing the page means nothing is made and nothing is charged.
  • What if the file cannot be read? If a scan is too poor to read reliably, we stop and tell you. No recording is made and you are not asked to pay for it.
  • Are there limits? Yes. There is a size limit on a file (40 MB right now) and a cap on the size of one job, and a very large job can be declined.
  • Refunds, taxes and payment methods: Payments are not open yet. We will post refund, tax and payment details here before anyone is charged.
